Artesian Lakes, Texas, July 4, 2009
This show was a rare treat, a show set amongst the lakes and piney woods of deep East Texas. Most of the outside world does not even know that places like this exist in Texas! Artesian Lakes is a resort near Romayor, TX, not far from Conroe north of Houston. It consists of many individual cabins hidden in the woods interspersed between peaceful little lakes, a fabulous restaurant, a meeting hall, and a central lodge. The occasion was a corporate retreat over 3 days, to celebrate July 4.
We set up on a long strip of grassy park land in between two lakes, lined by pine trees. The audience was treated to a BBQ and band, and when it got dark, we began the laser show. Our clients’s son set off a Uhaul trailer full of fireworks, and coordinated surprisingly well with the lasers! At least, we finished at the same time!
One neat thing we saw a lot of was alligators! In the lake next our show location, there was an old almost blind alligator named “Pancho” Pancho would actually come swimming across the lake if you called him. On the last day an alligator somehow got into the lake used as a swimming hole – he was a good 8 feet long. The lake had to be evacuated for the time being.
This was a July 4 holiday we will remember for a long time!
