Library Laser Show Tour – Austin Public Library

Laser Show at Block Party, Austin Central Library

Laser Spectacles did a tour for the Austin City Library system in the summer of 2025, our second ever library laser show! We started with the kickoff to the Austin Library Summer Reading Program at the downtown Central Library “Block Party”! The tour went on to visit four branch libraries over the summer, and everyone that attended had a blast watching the laser shows!

Block Party” Summer Reading Kickoff at Downtown Austin Library

The library staff turned the main art gallery space over to us and we loved it! We had all white walls, a huge white ceiling, and freedom to do our full show (but no haze allowed!). To begin, we set up our Laser Galaxy Lumia Projector to cover the ceiling with “outer space” type laser effects. These effects looked like stars and galaxies, all in motion. Next we set up a laser graphics projector to fill one wall with laser pictures and animations. We set up all of our laser beam projectors. Even if we were not using haze, the beam patterns on the walls added to the overall “surround laser” effect that we wanted.

We played a variety of music to create the foundation for the shows, from pop songs to exotic laser art music. The staff covered all of the windows and doors with black paper to keep it dark, as the party was during the morning hours. A wide variety of library guests came through, and the one thing that this show was – a little kids’ dance party!

Library Laser Show Tour Stop 2

University Hills Branch Library 11 AM

This was our first library branch show, so we brought everything! Once again, we could not use haze, so we just used one beam laser to fill in the show on the back wall of the meeting room. We had all of the standard laser show elements – graphics, beams, and lumia effects on the ceiling. We started setup at 9 AM, and were ready to go by 10:30 AM. The laser show attracted a full house, and they were all up and dancing by the end! The head librarian even pulled out a huge cloth parachute to add to the fun at the very end!

Library Laser Show Tour Stop 3

John Gillum Branch Library 3 PM

The John Gillum Branch was not too far away, so we were set up and ready to go by 1 PM. This meeting room was very dark and had a nice little alcove for me to set up the control equipment. The library staff passed out glowsticks for everyone, which was great fun!

Library Laser Show Tour Stop 4

Spicewood Springs Branch Library 11 AM

Spicewood Springs is in far north Austin – we got there in plenty of time to get some donuts before the library opened at 9 AM! By now we were old hands at setting up for library shows. Everything went well, and lots of dancing little kids!

Library Laser Show Tour Stop 5

Southeast Branch Library 6 PM

Southeast Branch was a little different – a laser show around dinner time! Also, we soon found out that the huge L-shaped meeting room had some lights that would not turn off! In the end, we had a good crowd who enjoyed the show. Some folks came because they had attended one of the earlier laser tour stops, and loved it!
